If you have just acquired a new space and you are considering remodeling a bathroom to suit your personal style , here are 5 important tips to go by .
HAVE A LAYOUT
A good layout gives a clear perspective of what you are doing with the space . This highlights positions of fittings and plumbing channels , windows , use of lighting and general aesthetics .
Bathrooms are small areas and might require even a more detailed approach to space planning for ergonomics and aesthetics syncing seamlessly .
Details of your layout should also include a major focal point of the space so this guides your sourcing .
Space consideration ; consider movement and safety in the bathroom space .
Symmetrical layout is essential in the details . Tiling positions , mirror layout , shower and bath symmetry so a structurally aligned space is achieved .
DRAWING INSPIRATION
Besides the ideas your designer may suggest to you , seek inspiration from the internet for ideas . There are numerous bathroom ideas which would definitely suit your personal style .
This would help find a brilliant theme to adopt which would be the ultimate guide for the tiles , fitting selection and styling process .
SOURCING
Once a theme has been decided , it’s important to put a list of pieces that would be coming into the space .
If you are having a fully tiled bathroom , it’s important to find what kind of tile is best for your theme . Tiles come in various forms and my recommendation for contemporary themed bathrooms are porcelain or Matt.
Same wall and floor tiles give a uniformed , sophisticated look even with less expensive tile options.
Careful selection of fittings by asking an expert for durable fittings . Unexpectedly, very durable bathroom fittings are expensive . Faucets and taps being top of that radar . Consider stainless steel instead of nickel for faucets and don’t just select pretty things . Study the mechanism of how it opens and close , use for convenience etc . Brass is also a very good material I would recommend for bathrooms . Consider brands that give at least 10 years guarantee on their products but as a designer , I won’t be going for less than 25 years . Reviews are also available online for further clarifications.
LIGHTING
LIghting in bathrooms are as essential as any other factor in designing the space .
The purpose of the space is a top tier factor of how it should be designed . For a family bathroom , you may want to consider keeping everything up to avoid accidents of manhandling of pieces .
For a master en-suite bathroom , it is expected that it is being used by adults hence ; a sense of responsibility.
Lighting in this space can be planned with caution “thrown to the wind” . For example , wall lights , pendant lights and even low headroom chandeliers can be used in these spaces without fear of them being within reach . Solid pieces can be placed on the floor as well .
Spotlights and Monopoint help highlight details in the space and glorify different elements that have been put together . They can also help influence the mood . Pendant lights or chandeliers are great for bath tub areas and wall lights are important for mirror areas . These different lighting can set up tones from everyday “get up and go “ mode to zen and kinky moods .
STYLING
As mentioned before , your theme is what determines every other piece coming into the space .
Bathroom styling accents are essential to bring the space together for that unifier effect . Cabinets , display areas and even windows are areas that can be considered for placing accents .
Towels can be wrapped neatly (check tutorials ) in the cabinets in numbers to create a sophisticated view .
Matching bathrooms sets such as tooth brush holders , soap and lotion containers , Dustin and even trays can be very stylish when matches with a common design or theme .
Candles and any fragrance piece . Scents in bathrooms create a zen effect and who actually wouldn’t want a nicely scented bathroom ?
Floor pieces - A pedestal side table with a pretty vase with flowers , a large candle holder , a floor vase with sticks . These items can fill up empty areas that aren’t in the way and add up volume to the space.
