DESIGNING ON A BUDGET

The festive period is fast approaching and one of the things that bothers the mind besides money is improving our living space
Or doing an entire overhaul of the space .
My most critical advice to design enthusiasts is do either do it in stages or do it on a budget . You don’t have to design the entire home at the same time especially if you have a large space .
Whatever you are trying to achieve ; simplicity or opulence , it’s best to do it on a budget if it’s not an entire overhaul .
Here are some tips to go by:
1. Buy one item you really like and let it determine the course of the rest of the design process.
Except you are an interior designer/decorator and can mastermind a design process using a colour scheme which means you already have the final picture in your head . For instance  , a rug you really like: let’s say it has colours like beige  and teal then let it determine painting , wallcovering and accents .

2. If you are a minimalist , you may start with painting . If your home is going to be shades and hues of grey , you may want to start with painting . You are safe with creating an aesthetically pleasing space using accent pieces later on.

3. Change these three . It guarantees a makeover . If you want a visibly quick makeover of your space , change/add throw pillows , centerpiece and wallcovering .

4. Use mirrors

Mirrors come in different forms . Plain , designed, mirror panels  or accent mirrors. They help create an illusion of a larger space and improve lighting .

5. Consider spraying old cabinets and doors
Except you are looking at creating a rustic appearance , spraying of wooden furniture may be the most vibrant makeover that can happen in your space . Painting is different from spraying by the way. Have a spray painter ( you can get them at automobile repair shops) check out wardrobes and closets , doors and cabinets . They need to prime first to give it an eventually smooth finish after spraying .

6. Declutter your space for practicality
Hoarding mars an entire design concept . Keeping useless furniture or accents might make your space look all mushed  up despite your makeover . Declutter according to practicality and use ; not sentiments .
Less is always more and this applies to homes .
