You think your home is modern???? Think again

A modern home comes with very vital , significant features some interior designers do not even think about. Certain features like functionality, comfort over any other thing, space management and minimalism can't be taken away from modernism.
If you are to consult with an interior designer for a modernized theme, here are features to expect :

Clean , clear, straight lines: these are to be expected with upholstery detailing. Traditional furniture tends to create invisible upholstery lines by using threading same as fabric colour.

Oversized tiles: oversized tiles are used for flooring options in modern designs in place of small tiles or mosaic .

Less solid wood: MDF (medium density fibre boards ) seems to have taken over solid wood. They are cheaper to produce , easy to couple and in most cases lighter in weight.

Space management : small spaces are maximized and large spaces are put together to create more 'leg room'. Modern homes are expected to be spacious and put together. Also less furniture is used . Modern spaces might used small sized sofa arrangements with other functional furniture as recliners, footstools and nest of stools ( stackable) in place of scatter stools which might take up space.

Lighting: lighting is one of the most essential features of a modern home. Modernism encourages use of adequate lighting which are professionally positioned according to space functionality. E.g floor lamps for living areas, retractable lighting for dining area, bed side lamps for the bedroom and reading lamps for home offices. In which cases can be dimmed according to preference.

Embedded cabinetry
Cabinets in modern homes are embedded in walls as opposed to protruding in other designs. Bookshelves, wardrobes, closets and in some cases , kitchen cabinets .
Bold accent colours
A modern home is expected to have at least one bold accent colour

There must be a focal wall

Use of metal over wood

Accent pieces : most accents pieces may not match but definitely work with the space. This includes pieces like clocks, wall arts, rugs as well as
Vases.

So do you still think your home is modern????
