Consulting an interior designer......and facts they may never tell you!!!

1. Where to get the best deals
Interior designers always know when to get the best deals for certain products . They always know when manufacturers and warehouses are on sale . Be sure to be on an interior designer's good side by letting them know you are not a cheap skate and you want the best possible furnishing although you may not be afford the high end ones.
This way, they will go the extra mile to ensure you get the best.
I once offered a client some good discount on silk paint products he thought were fixed priced everywhere.
Truth is; they were but like I didn't mention, interior designers do have their way.

2. Discuss budget first
Except you discuss what your budget is first, the interior designer will choose the best catalogues available as well as products and pieces. Their major focus is to give their job the best reflections and touches . This had potentials to boost your bill beyond budget which might scare you or make you commit beyond budget . This might agitate you unnecessarily when delays or other issues happen during the course of the project.

3. Be specific
While listening to your interior designer's advice might be a good idea, you also may need to be wary of bypassing your preferences . Let your designer know what exactly you want though he /she might suggest better options or arrangements .

4. It's never all or nothing
There is no such thing as all or nothing where your money is involved . If your kitchen is what you can refurbish at the moment , please do so by all means. Do not be persuaded into doing bits and pieces of everything achieving absolutely nothing when you can do things one at a time.

5. Your home might not be their priority
Interior designers might tell you that your home is their priority at that moment which really may not be so. You want to be sure that you can communicate with them even while they are busy. You won't be the only client of a good interior designer so expecting that they get busy may not be a thought off radar.
Be open about that and that way, you will get all the attention you will be needing for proficient delivery.

6. The more you know, the more you pay
As a luxury interior designer, I can tell you without doubts that I haven't been very successful at selling to people who do not know what they want or are unexposed to luxury itself. Just like most business deals, the depth of your knowledge is taken in cognizance when creating your bill. This is because you know what you want and you are willing to go for it. Style is taste. Luxury is the meal itself . Be open with your desires but don't appear too excited.
This might get the better of your pocket.

7. Make a deal
While interior designers are skilled professionals, the possibility of having interpersonal relationships with them due to the content of your conversation is very plausible. So set your emotions and make a business deal with your designer- a deal that makes everyone happy and creates a long lasting design that will stand the test of time.
