By asking this question, I am not referring to how much you have spent to ensure that your house is indeed a home. Your home may be worth so much with respect to furniture and fittings but could be a death trap in the real sense without even you realising it.
By following the following tips I will be providing you will be able to score yourself on how liveable your home is or probably make amends where necessary :
Declutter ! declutter ! declutter !
Declutter wardrobes , kitchens, old storage boxes, garages and other storage areas. Wardrobes, under sink areas in kitchens are particular havens for moulds which can be very dangerous to the health and ultimately lethal. Old clothes can be passed on or given away from time to time. Old pots and other kitchen utensils. My mum once had this wooden spoon for as long as 16 years! Garages could harbour snakes, scorpions and other dangerous animals if abandoned for so long. Decluttering aids general living standards because we then have space to store modern items or create a more space in our living areas by putting away some items temporarily.
Disinfect
Not just insecticides. Hire professionals who understand the process of ridding your home of all sorts of insects, pests and animals if possible. Some insects and small animals are not only harmful but also poisonous.
Rid hazard tools and spots as much as humanly possible
Broken vases and décor pieces, chipped tableware(cups, plates), naked wires, loose pipes, broken tiles, chipped parquet flooring etc must all be put together and disposed or in the case of wires, get a technician to sort the problem.
Indoor plants
Buy / plant indoor aloe vera, dracanae, Chinese evergreen amongst other indoor plants, help get rid of toxins that may be harmful. Most of these toxins are from daily use solvents like detergents, car wash liquid and so many others.
Put trash away
As much as possible, keep trash very distant from your living area, more so till the next day. Piled up trash contains much more bacteria than we can imagine hence they sould be put away everyday and maybe twice daily.
Having done all these, you are sure to have a clean , healthy , hazard free home.
