One of my most important excercise during my last business trip in September was to do my research on wallpapers. Sourcing, customizing, luxury procurement..etc.
I spent the first two days upon my arrival in Dubai doing online researches and asking relevant questions about wallpapers. One would wonder what my curiosity was really about but i knew what i was up to. As a designer, my job primarily is to keep up with trends vis-a-vis creating inspiring design elements/ spaces.
You want to be able to tell a client ' i know what i am doing' authoritatively and they believe you.
My first point was with Versace home in Dubai mall. i met this amazing lady - seniya, who took me through their exclusive range of luxury wallpapers in rich matte outer finish which were in full wallpapers and borderline forms. Versace no doubt had my unequivocal endorsements judging by what i saw.
Then my breathtaking experience at a particular store in the heart of town put a stop to my research. This was it; rich velvet embossed wallpapers, up to date designs and yes they import from Belgium and Germany.I was setting up my new showroom and made up my mind to do something differently.
we used a little of the wallpaper significantly. Like this:
Wallpapers come in various varieties; paintable, washable , velvet embossed, coarse sand patterns ,granite embossed et al and can be used in almost any part of the home including high moisture areas like the kitchen and bathroom depending on how and where it is installed.
Here are the factors to note when considering using wallpapers:

Here, we made out 5sqm out of this 22 sqm wall somewhere in the middle so the wallpaper sits right in the middle of the wall. This white and black velvet embossed wallpaper helped us create an illusion of a larger, bolder wall, making it our showroom's feature wall.
Here are the factors to note when considering using wallpapers:
- Use large prints on a small wall. They make the walls appear larger
- Be sure the patterns align when installing
- You do not have to use wallpaper entirely on a wall (see first photo)
- Wallpapers can be used anywhere; closets, wardrobes, offices, living rooms, dining rooms . Feel free to get adventurous using wallpaper
- Place a mirror on the opposite wall of you wallpapered wall.. it creates a double wall effect
- White wallpapers always look neat, effortless and precise
- Covering one wall in an overscaled dramatic print makes a strong visual statement
