INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2013

Gone are those days when we go to showrooms to buy any furniture we find or shop online for any lovely piece. Yes ,you have the right to create your own style or make an impression through your own design statements but while you do that, it is important to follow trends in interior design. Interestingly, these trends don’t become extinct rapidly so you don’t have to worry about you home losing taste a short while after the makeover. In 2012, we saw trends like rattan furniture, fur pillows and rugs, sectional sofa, velvet upholsteries, chain link murals and furniture design ,plain fabrics, leather occasional chairs, wall papers .etc.

2013 is taking us where we have been before, but a long time ago; as well as exploring areas yet to be discovered or explored. i talked about the colour of 2013 in my last write up and just like fashion, interior design comes with predicted trends for each year. Its interesting to keep up with trends while revamping or replacing accents from time to time like i do. you could buy some knitted scatter cushions, sculpted wooden pieces or a cute little terrarium. but be aware of maintaining balance, tone and texture while doing this.  Here are some of the trends to go with in 2013:

 BRASS
Brass has come to stay . gorgeous lamps, candle holders, curtain poles, door knobs are all fantastic ways to explore the use of brass.

COLOURFUL FABRICS

This year, we are looking at more colourful patterns for both upholstery and curtains.

BRIGHT PAINT COLOURS

Spaces will be adorned with bright coloured paints.

ANTIQUE FURNITURE

Vintage and retro will meet modern with furniture designs. Rough finishes, unattractive accessories and emphasized detailing are all features of these ages.

KNITS

Knitwear will become home accent options

AFRICAN INPUT

African influence is making its comeback in accents both internationally and locally. Wood carvings, sculpture , and pottery are all coming back to rock our worlds.

TERRARIUM

We all remember the terrarium which almost went extinct. Designers are making new modern designs of this beautiful accent piece.
