Taking it one at a time will indeed guide you when decorating and guide you against drastic 'pound foolish' decisions. Here some of the tips i can help you with:
- Take a look at your curtains. Are they dirty or they need to be replaced? if they require laundry attention, why not do just that? replacing drapes with nice, rich fabrics require a fat budget most times. you need to decide if you're ready for that or not rather than using cheap fabrics .
- create a focal point in your space: you can do this by painting a your tv wall in a bright, contrasting colour or any other wall effects. wall effects like glitter dust, stucco finish, murals are very unique and can make all the difference. you could also hang an attractive chandelier from the ceiling or replace your rug
- Use accessories; floor lamps, charger bowls, pot pourris, burners, figurines, table lamps, wall arts, wall verbs to mention a few are all accessories that can help improve the look of your space.
- Throw pillows: Add throw pillows to your revamp list to serve as a rich accent to your furniture. Besides comfort, throw pillows add to the overall look of the space and can be part of colour scheme planning.
- Flooring: you could replace your old carpet with a new one, or have it cleaned. you could even replace it with tiles or try something new like vinyl( laminate)flooring.
- Have a christmas tree. its amazing how much life as little christmas tree can bring to your space. have it beautifully decorated and adorned with lights.you'll be glad you did.
- Add a nice extra piece; a colourful ottoman , piano stool or or bin bag will do for a nice extra piece . you could even make a different, unique piece like this tree-like bookshelve
Embrace nature: Have a nice flower pot with a nice plant in it. golden palm, morning glory and cactus are examples of some of the plants that can survive indoors so long they have access to light. you could place them by your door, staircase landing or close to your media bench .
Above all, stay happy and have a fabulous festive season!
